Choosing the Right Font for a Digital Kids’ Magazine
While redesigning a digital magazine for a young audience, I found myself scrolling through dozens of display fonts, looking for something that felt both engaging and editorially functional. That’s when I landed on Candy Putri. It wasn’t the most dramatic option, but it struck a balance between fun and readability that worked well for our content layout. Designed as a display font, Candy Putri brings a sense of whimsy without overwhelming the editorial structure.
Visual Personality and Editorial Appeal
Candy Putri is a rounded, slightly bouncy typeface that leans into its playful character. Each letter has a soft, almost cartoonish charm, with open counters and gentle curves that suggest movement and energy. The font’s rhythm is lively, making it perfect for titles, headers, and other short bursts of text where visual impact matters more than extended reading comfort.
In our magazine layout, we used it for article titles and section headers. It brought a consistent mood across the publication—bright, approachable, and a little mischievous. Despite its charm, Candy Putri isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s best used for short text elements—titles, headers, pull quotes, and decorative accents. We avoided using it for body copy, captions, and footnotes, where clarity and efficiency are more important than personality.
Also, while the font includes multiple styles and weights, it’s not ideal for formal or academic publications. If your project leans more traditional—like a white paper, formal report, or academic journal—Candy Putri may feel out of place. But for lifestyle blogs, children’s content, creative newsletters, and playful digital magazines, it’s a strong contender.

Before finalizing our design, we reviewed the font’s technical specs. Candy Putri includes a range of styles, alternates, and ligatures, which gave us flexibility in how we styled headers and decorative elements.
